Top 5 Updo Hairstyles for Prom 2011
|
While there are literally hundreds of different updo hairstyles to choose from for
Prom 2011, we have selected our top five that will be sure to impress. These are just suggestions and each
individual should choose her hair based on her personality and what suits her best.
There are updos out there for all hair types – short, medium and long as well as updos for every face
shape. If you are unsure of your face shape, you can ask your hairstylist or compare to celebrities on the
internet.
While some hairstyles may look great in pictures, they may not be suitable for you. The best solution is
to try a few updos before prom. You will assuredly have several parties to attend leading up to prom, to pick
out a few and try them on to get a sense of what will work for you individually.
Below we’ve listed our top 5 updos for prom this year.
1. The Classic Prom Updo - a gorgeous hairstyle for prom which has many options available
to personalize the look. Add an accessory, mini braid or twist to the updo to make it yours.
2. Braided updo – Yes this is still in for 2011. Braids make any updo hairstyle look
cute and who doesn’t want to look cute for prom?
3. French Twist Updo – a more elegant look that will stay in place during all the prom
dancing. Natalie Portman has popularized this look on the red carpet this year and it will sure to be a hit
this spring.
4. Messy Updo – in our opinion this is the perfect updo choice for prom as it offers
flexibility and is stunning all in one. If you want a hairstyle that can be put up and be left alone for the
night, then this is your choice. If you are planning on being a mainstay on the dance floor for the night,
then this is the updo for you. We suggest framing the face with some curled loose tendrils and a live flower
in back. It is spring after all!
5. Half Up Half Down Updo – A half up and half down hairstyle offers the same benefits as
the messy updo. It doesn’t have to be monitored during the course of the
evening and has a lot of different options and accessories that can be added. If you need inspiration for a
half updo, look no further than Carrie Underwood and her recent red carpet appearances. She should be the
spokeswoman for the half updo, as in our opinion, wears it better than anyone at the moment.
What Updos to Avoid at Prom
This spring there will be some trending updos that will be considered for prom that should be ignored. The
popularity of reality TV shows has brought some hairstyles to the mainstream. While they may seem attractive
at the moment, you need to remember that prom memories and pictures last forever.
Several hairstyles at the moment can be seen as ‘fly by night’. One of those in particular is the Puff
Updo popularized by the Jersey Shore star Snooki. While it is a fun hairstyle, is this really what you want
to be wearing when your kids are looking at the pictures 20 years from now?
Also be wary of Retro Updos that have been styled by celebrities over the past
couple years. While these looks can look fabulous when professionally done by the best stylists in Hollywood,
they can often be difficult to replicate at home. Our advice is to stick to a hairstyle that is timeless and
make it yours.
