Quick messy updos are the hot hairstyles for 2012. We've seen them on the red carpet, down the aisle and
holding up a prom crown. It's a style that encourages creativity and in this short video you can see how
easy they can be.
The great thing about messy updos is that you can truly make them your own for any
occasion. Add an elegant look by wearing a tiara or live flowers or throw the hair
up in a soft style before heading to the beach bar for an evening out.
Long Hair
The definition of a messy updo is simply an updo that has been 'messed up'. If you have long hair then you
can put your hair up in a ponytail or bun and incorporate some side-swept bangs. This is a very soft and
romantic look that guys will love. It's much easier to acheive than a straight pulled back look as this is
much more difficult to maintain.
Medium Hair
Medium hair lengths are great for messy updos. Put your hair up in a normal bun or place it to the
side. I personally favor the side buns as they tend to be more noticed than a standard back bun. Above
all, BE CREATIVE and discover something for yourself that works for your color,
contrast and face shape.
Short Hair
If you have short hair then we encourage you to add a hair extension and put it in a bun or ponytail. If
you want to stay with a natural look then a quick easy look can be achieved in a half up half down updo. Pull
the hair you want up back in a tie. Use your fingers instead of a brush as after all it is a messy
'do'. From the middle, start to pull the hair out of the tie to give it a bit of volume. Customize to
suit your style and then add your favorite hairspray.
If you want to be even more creative then we suggest adding a Boho braid across the front. As mentioned in
our 2010 Latest Updo Trends section, both the messy updo and braids
are in for this upcoming prom and wedding season!
A Boho braid is simply a braid that goes across the front of your forehead. This is
useful for keeping hair out of your face during the summer months or just adding a bit of elegance to a simple
updo.
We've seen celebrities and models alike use the Boho recently and expect it's popularity to continue throughout
2010. The Boho can really only be used with long or medium hair as it needs to extend across the face and
tuck behind the ear.
The style of the braid is entirely up to you as its thickness can largely depend on the contour of your
hair and what you are comfortable with. Here is a gorgeous picture of Else Pitaky
wearing a messy updo with a Boho braid.
