There are many updos for medium length hair to choose from.
It’s a misconception that the updo is only for those with long hair. Medium hair updos can be found all over the
red carpet as well as at many formal events.
Consider the following options for medium length hair updos:
Half up half down updo
If your hair isn’t long enough for a complete formal pulled up look, place half up and leave the front part of
bangs loosely hanging on the sides. If you have medium length hair, you have enough to at least put part of it up
in a bun.
Messy braided updo
You don’t need extra long hair to pull up your hair into a messy bun or funky look. Use a curling iron to give a
bit of life to your strands. Roll a tendril or two into a side or top braid. The key to a successful messy updo is creativity. You’ll see that recent messy styles on the red carpet tend to have
a unique aspect. Whether its layers on top, braids on the side or a strategically placed accessory. Don’t be afraid
to experiment with accessories for updos and there are literally hundreds of possibilities.
Classic prom updo
This is a great more formal look for those with medium length hair.
Soft updo hairstyle
A soft look may be perfect depending on your hair texture. Gentle waves or curls may be the perfect choice to
soften up any elegant or formal updo.
Elegant updo
In 2011, look to Eva Longoria or Jennifer Lopez for elegant updo
inspiration. They have popularized the sleek pulled back up high hairstyle that is as elegant as it comes. An
elegant hairstyle is often dictated by its presentation. If you choose to wear an elegant style, be sure to wear it
with pride and grace.
Low bun updo
If you have shorter hair then pulling your hair up into a low bun is a great option. Low updos can look as
fabulous as high updos. Softly pull each side back and add a live flower to one side to complete the look. I always
place the accessory on my right side but either side works!
Retro updo hairstyle
There are a number of old Hollywood updos that were made popular by actresses with
medium length hair. Audrey Hepburn often sported her classic looks without the luxury of long hair.
If you are just unable to obtain the desired look due to the length of your hair, you should consider hair
extensions as a viable option. Hair extensions these days are no longer the easily noticeable accessory they were
several years ago. You can find some fabulous extensions that will add volume and length to an updo. They have
become a common accessory for celebrities and can provide just the added touch to complete you medium hair
updo.
