Updo hairstyles can be worn for literally any occasion but are the essential choice for wedding, prom or homecoming this festive season. With the wide variety of styling options available, you are sure to find one that is suitable for you. While we are partial to the messy and braided updos , there are other kinds of elegant updos that might be more appropriate for you. In this section we are focusing on formal updos. You may be under the assumption that formal updos need to be done by professionals. We have collected a few great how-to-videos that indicate otherwise. In this struggling economy we are finding it more common for hairstyles to be done at home rather than spending the extra $50-100 to have them professionally done. That being said, there is no substitute for a fabulous hairstylist who knows you and your hair best. Here are some updo suggestions for formal events where you maybe be brave enough to style it yourself. These hairstyles are recommended for prom, homecoming, an office party, Christmas party, Gala, Spring dance, Sweet Sixteen party or the Red Carpet (for our celebrity readers!). You may notice that we left out wedding on this list. We feel that this is likely the most important single event of your life and we always recommend the use of a hairstylist for the big day. Unless you have a great deal of experience in hairstyling, it’s well worth the cost to get it done right (and on time) for your wedding.
