What better choice for your next event than a classic updo? Classic updos can be worn formal events
such as wedding or prom or can be used for more informal occasions such as an office party or a night out.
Starting with a basic updo, your hair can then be customized to your face shape and personality to suite.
While classic updos can be interpreted to mean a number of things, when we think of classic, we think of the
Ballerina bun. This is a flexible updo that is easy to create and appropriate for almost any
outing, not to mention a great option for that bad hair day! These updos are very easy to create
when you follow the basic steps below:
- All updos work best with unwashed hair. So if possible, don’t wash your hair the day of the
event.
- Use a comb or bristle brush to smooth your hair back into a pony tail and hold in place with an elastic or
pony tail clasp that matches your hair color. Apply a thin layer of hairspray to hold in place.
- Twist the hair while coiling it at the same time, securing the bun to the head with bobby pins.
- Use hairspray to secure.
A nice alternative to twisting and coiling the pony tail is to separate into sections. Loop small sections
from the bottom of the pony tail back up securing at the elastic with pins. Repeat this process until you
secure sections 360 degrees around the elastic.
While these are just the basic steps for creating a quick bun updo, there are hundreds of options to choose from
to create a unique look that suits you. You might also want to consider adding a messy element or a bit more
hair product for a more shiny elegant look.
This is also a great updo for going to work, whether in an office or as a waitress, it’s sure to keep your hair
out of your face and can provide a sleek, casual appeal. For those living in a warm climate, the ballerina
bun is an excellent summer hairstyle as it will keep you cool and keep those pesky strands from sticking to your
skin.
Kirsten Dunst Updo
In the below image, Kirsten Dunst is displaying a classic messy updo pulled up in a soft bun. She has
lovely bangs which help the loose strands on each side frame her face. As you can see, it doesn’t take much
effort to get a gorgeous red carpet updo hairstyle.

Jessica Biel Updo
We also love this small ballerina bun that Jessica Biel wore at a recent event. The updo looks fabulous in
the backdrop of those diamond earrings!

Hayden Panettiere Updo

In this image the lovely Hayden Panettiere is displaying a gorgeous wavy updo pulled up in a messy bun.
The Heroes star loves the messy updo and clearly has an a-class stylist. The updo bun is a style that
complements her neckline and face shape quite well and it has become rare to see Hayden on the red carpet without
one!
