Braided Updos

Braided updos are hot in 2012.  We’ve seen plenty of Boho braids on the red carpet this year and expect to see many more this wedding and prom season.  The subtle addition of a braid can add a flirty appeal and transform a simple daytime look into an updo for a night out.  Braided bun updos are also gaining traction heading towards the formal season.  Braided buns can be styled for wedding, prom, homecoming or any formal event.  Larger Bohemian style braids have also been seen incorporated into messy updos as well as full updos.  Below we’ve included a number of our favorite celebrity braided updo styles as well as a full gallery at the bottom of the page.

Nicole Richie Braided Updo

Nicole Richie is no stranger to the braid.  This is one of our favorites that she displayed at an event last year.  She molded each side of her hair into a French Braid and then pulled them together to one side at the nape of her neck.  A very simple yet elegant updo.

Jessica Simpson Braided Updo

A more intricate wedding style updo was worn by the gorgeous Jessica Simpson in the image below.  The tightly wrapped braids outline her volumized bun playing the perfect complement to her exquisite diamond earrings. This is a very elegant updo that would turn heads at a wedding or prom for sure.

Lauren Conrad Braided Updo

Another of our favorite braid girls is The Hills’ Lauren Conrad.  She has played a large part in bringing the braid trend to the mainstream teenage audience.  She loves the simple summer braid but also knows how to wear it in an updo.  Here she has a thicker Bohemian style braid  holding her hair back at the front and then tied together in a bun in the back. 

As you can see, this is a gorgeous look for a casual night out but could also be accessorized to get a more formal appeal.  The great thing about this look is that it is very easy to create:

1. Separate your hair at the middle part into two sections.  Use your favorite conditioning shine spray on the parts you’re about to braid.
2. On each side separate the hair into three strands and follow the braided pattern of left over middle, right over middle until the braids are formed. Tie each end with an elastic band.
3. Pull each braid into a loose pony tail and wrap up in a side bun. 

LC chooses a more casual look but add a headband or a live flower to the bun to add a bit of pizzazz to this updo.  

Jessica Alba Braided Updo

Our braided discussion cannot be complete without mentioning Jessica Alba.  Jessica has displayed some gorgeous Boho and milkmaid style braids when sporting her longer hair.  While Jessica looks cute with short hair, it’s her longer updos that we love.  This updo provides a simplistic elegance and is perfect for a party or more formal event.
