2011 Updo styles have started off where 2010 left off. Cutting edge, elegant and classy
remain the popular selections for the new year. Whether it be a Messy Updo with side bangs and curls or a Braided
Twist wrapped up in a bun, celebrities and common folk alike are always searching for that new ‘do’ that demands
attention.
We predict that the momentum of the Braided Updo will continue into prom and wedding season this summer and will
become the ‘must-do’ of 2011.
Jessica Alba and Penelope Cruz have been recently spotted sporting these graceful updos. Notice how Penelope’s
natural beauty enables her to pull off the halo-like look without the use of any accessory! We never recommend
going out without accessories, however when you are Penelope Cruz, you go by your own rules.

While the Braided Updo can be worn in a formal setting, it is also an excellent
choice for a more casual affair, such as a Bachelorette Party (or ‘Hen’s Night’ as the lovable Australians call
it), Homecoming dance or Fancy Dress party. Some of these styles can be done at home without the help of a
professional. Take a look at our Updo Video Gallery to learn how.
The great thing about the braid is that it transcends generations. I’m sure every mother can remember learning
to French Braid her hair with her mom as a child. Now, 20 or 30 years later, those fond memories come rushing back.
For me, the braid will always have that nostalgic sentiment as it will in many others as well.
Braided hair can also have a very romantic appeal. This is a hairstyle that guys will notice. I repeat, guys
will notice! Braids have always had a flirty appeal, whether in an Updo or dangling innocently to the side.
I’ve never met a guy who does not love them. So keep this in mind for the next time you’re thinking of doing
something for that special someone. Whether it be Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, birthday or just because. A
braided Updo in 2010 is the new way of showing him your beautiful self!
Another trend to look out for is the Messy Updo. This is a newer look that really gained momentum in 2010 and
that is still in a somewhat experimental phase. Kiera Knightly and Scarlett Johannsen took it to the next level
during the last part of the year and leave us all begging for more. This is more of a casual ‘do’ that can be used
for any occasion. The ‘Messy’ can be either curled, ironed straight or even partially braided. The sky is the limit
for this Updo and 2011 is sure to be a year for breaking the mold. Angelina Jolie and Heidi Klum in the images
below each reveal their own touch in their Messy ‘Do’s.
A Messy Updo is often times the safest bet for a Prom or Wedding. You never want
to be in a situation where your hair dictates your behavior The ‘Messy’ allows you toget messy on the dance
floor or participate in that limbo contest without reservation.
So remember, when making that crucial decision for that big event, or that simple decision for that special
someone, a Braided Updo or Messy Updo should be on the top of your list for 2011.
